Canada’s Export Cattle Trade to United States Doubled in Four Months

Ottawa reports Canada shipped twice as many heavy cattle and three times as many calves to the United States in the first four months of the year compared with 1936. Cattle over 700 pounds accounted for 77.6 percent of U S imports, with 61,782 head, while 22.4 percent came from Mexico. Calf imports reached 53.5 percent of the quota, and white seed potatoes imports from Canada stood at 31,717,184 pounds. Officials note declining exports due to price margins and suggest a coming need for replacement cattle as peak production may have passed.
