Dublin reports sporadic gunfire after the cease fire order. Free State troops replied near Portobello Kilmainham and at Phoenix Park all-night exchanges with no casualties. A separate despatch notes a woman linked to Count Plunkett’s family was searched in Ballyhannis and taken to Claremorris.

Light Oil Struck at 2525 Feet in Coutts Well

Calgary reports an oil showing at 2525 feet in the Imperial well west of Coutts. Drilling continued to 2542 feet when a heavy water influx appeared, water rising about 2000 feet in the hole. Light oil yielded around a barrel in total from the baler.

Jewel Robbery Hits Montreal Firm. Safe Blown by Thieves

Thieves blew open the safe at JL Sabbath and Company, a Montreal wholesale jeweler, stealing jewels valued at $30,000. Entry was gained with a false key. burglars had previously robbed the firm in April 1922 for $10,000. Most stolen merchandise was traced to Toronto.

Woodstock May 19 The missing Mrs. Stoddard of Lake Ville was located after two days and nights hiding behind the piano in her own home. The case ends with her safe return and no injuries reported.

About 9 30 this morning Jas Zach ary of 52 Eleventh St. riding near Allowance Ave. and South Railway St. collided with a car driven by Mrs J F Lavey. He was thrown from the bicycle and sustained injuries and the front wheel was broken.

Final word of coal transport talks in Ottawa

Premier Herbert Greenfield of Alberta told Ottawa’s board of trade the final decision on Alberta coal to Ontario and eastern markets had not been reached he urged a new conference between coal operators and railways to cut transcontinental costs. Port William May 29 A Board of Grain Connoonsters has not decided on the quality of screenings following a complaint by Ostrander Co. Elevators are said to be delivering insufficient grade material and dockage. Tests may last three to four months and inspectors will note quality on sheets. The board will sample each elevator over thirty days to aid a decision when the 123 cracker is ready.
