Railways to pay Alberta five million in June
Edmonton May 17 Premier J E Brownlee announced official notice that the instalment of 5 400 000 dollars, due from the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railways for the Edmonton Dunvegan line and associated sections, would be paid on June 1. The 26 million purchase price from 1929 is paid in installments over years. The payment helps meet a June 1 2 000 000 maturing note in New York funds without Dominion help.

Prisoner escapes from Red Deer jail during transfer
Fred Fisher a 28 year old detainee awaiting removal to Fort Saskatchewan jail escaped his cell using a heavy iron bracket to batter the door lock.
