Telegraph dispatches from major industrial centers report that the crest of high prices has been reached in the United States and in many places the peak has passed. Indications are that prices will not rise next fall and winter and that a reduction is likely.
Calgary May 8 The United Mine Workers of America held an executive session on scale policy. One man died and four were critically ill in Florence after eating preserved string beans and preserved beets. County Physician W. Ndall of Florence confirmed the cause as foodborne illness from the preserved produce. Classified ads touted as the quickest salesmen in the world by the News.
In Chicago on May 17 Miss Mary White shot herself after an alleged leap year proposal to Joseph Weller was rejected. Levi Parsons Morton former vice president and New York governor died at his Rhinebeck-on-the-Hudson estate on his 96th birthday after bronchial pneumonia. Born in Vermont he founded several banks and trust companies and held roles including US minister to France and state governor. His 96th birthday was celebrated by Rhinebeck schools.
Four men including Frank Hut chinson Gallup Cavendish Roy and Francis Hut chinson of Schuler appeared in police court on horse stealing charges and were remanded for eight days. Frank Gallup and Chris were granted bail of 5000 each as officers recovered several identified horses. The arrests followed over two months of work in the area.

In Niagara Falls New York a 45 year old man Thomas Meroerk and his 8 year old daughter fell 150 feet into the gorge. Both were alive and in hospital tonight. The girl said the father threw her over the bank and then jumped after her.
