Cooper lands craft after manual control six 22 orbit flight

Astronaut Gordon Cooper completed a 34 hour mission aboard the Faith 7 capsule, using manual controls to hit the Pacific Ocean recovery area after the automatic guidance faltered. He spent 34 hours in space, landed less than five miles from the carrier USS Kearsarge, and showed normal recovery with a brief bout of dizziness and dehydration.

Milt Reinhardt, 30, appliance salesman and NDP nominee, will contest the Alberta provincial election for Medicine Hat Redcliff. Six to ten mill hike eyed by Medicine Hat school board

Sg t Maj Walter Rolland Leja, 45, an army engineer, was seriously injured when a bomb exploded as he attempted to dismantle it in a Westmount mailbox. Leja had previously removed a loaded dynamite package and was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Bomb at Golden Eagle Refinery Shocks Montreal Suburbs

A bomb exploded at the Golden Eagle Refinery in Points-aux-Trembles causing a leak of 100,000 gallons of fuel oil from an eight inch tank base. Firefighters flushed the oil away and officials warned that a blast in nearby tanks could have killed many. No major damage reported beyond the leak.
