The Destination Marketing Organization reports 2022 exceeded expectations and Alberta tourism, with four of every ten Albertans planning to travel within the province, supports a busy season. UCP Promises Involuntary Treatment Law For Addicts

United Conservative Leader Danielle Smith would push a bill to force treatment for severely drug addicted individuals if elected on May 29. The plan creates 10 000 treatment spaces for up to 29 000 Albertans annually, adds 700+ beds in 11 locations including First Nations, and five 75 bed mental wellness centres. A petition path by a family member clinician or police officer could seek a non criminal judge’s order. Smith frames it as balancing rights with safety and compassion while criticizing NDP stance on supervised consumption sites.
