The British government proposed a two question vote for Scotland on a Parliament in Edinburgh with optional tax powers and a one question vote for Wales on a Senedd in Cardiff. If approved the referenda would be held in September with first elections possibly in May 1999.

Alberta clash over private hospital plan in Calgary grows

Federal Health Minister David Dingwall urged Ralph Klein to close Calgary's Grace Hospital renovation plan for a private for profit facility.
