A Irvine woman, Mrs A Bechtold, cracked a flawless egg to find a tiny second egg inside. The surprise stowaway, perfectly formed though small, prompted humorous speculation about future contraband nesting by hens.
Flames from the basement of the Terminal hotel in Atlanta killed 25 people, injured 13, and left many missing. About sixty five residents were present when the blaze began. twenty four bodies had been recovered. Rescue workers faced falling timber and wreckage hindering identification. J. M. Denyes of Milton retires after 25 years as Malton County school inspector.
The Permanent Committee of the French Language Congress of America told the Rowell Commission in Quebec on May 16 that minority rights must be recognized. They urged nationwide bilingualism and separate schools and called for provinces to handle social and labor legislation given local conditions.
Three detachments of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police continued the murder inquiry into Mrs. Anna Cottick 81 as three men were held on coroner's warrants. The suspects who are residents of the nearby fishing river district were arrested Saturday and will be questioned about Mrs. Cottick's death and the assault on the Plesiuks eight miles north of the Cottick home. The attack involved $1,000 demanded, a beating, and removal of a wooden box with $23. Mrs. Cottick died en route to hospital. The coroner's jury viewed the body and the inquest was adjourned sine die.
Former Australian trade minister Sir Henry Gillett contends that Australia Canada trade is dramatically unbalanced. He told the House of Commons tariffs debate that Australian manufacturers and British exporters suffer from preferential Canadian access under the old agreement, and urged the Ottawa talks not to repeat the injustice.
The fourth Western group meeting of the Ladies Society to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen will be held in Medicine Hat Thursday and Friday. Two former Medicine Hat youths Flying Officer S. S. Blanchard and Flying Officer R. C. Davis pilot army monoplanes arriving from Ottawa to conduct a topographical survey of the area between Calgary Lethbridge the international boundary and the Saskatchewan line. They will stay two weeks directing five man team including a radio operator and camera crews to map routes at 15000 feet every 0.7 miles. Blanchard visited his mother in Winnipeg before flying to Medicine Hat to join the project.
Edmonton RCMP said part of the remains of nine year old Maur ice Nicolet missing from a Bay Tree farm since Sept 21, 1935, is believed found. A bone and a boy’s shirt were reported by Peace River detachment as having been located in the Bay Tree vicinity.
At the annual meeting held Saturday evening, the Medicine Hat Fish and Game Association reviewed pest destruction campaigns and pledged continued work to curb predatory pests. Officers were re-elected and a modest year end balance was reported as 6860 eggs and 5156 feet plus 1524 golden tails collected for pest destruction.

In Mexico City on May 16 followers of agrarian leader Gen Cedillo clashed with police as Socialist Youth seized university buildings. Pistols and knives were used, students attacked buildings again after authorities urged caution. Federal troops were sent to San Luis Potosi amid oil expropriation disputes between Cedillo supporters and President Cardenas.
A man named Baldwin was arrested on a conspiracy to defraud the Rubbra Company, linked to bankruptcy assignments. He is the fourth arrest in a string that includes Rubbra and others from Calgary and Northern Virginia. The case unfolds with Lethbridge noted in the April report.
