Shanghai reports say Pukow on the Yangtse northern bank opposite Nanking fell to Chiang Kai Shek led Southern Nationalist forces after hobbling shelling. Northern troops burned the town before retreating. looters were repelled by Southern troops.
Chicago police say more than 100 holdups have been solved after an exhaustive show-up process. Fifteen men and three girls were arrested in raids. many teens among those in custody as detectives linked suspects to several crimes including a groc ery store robbery and night club attacks. The force calls the operation a major breakthrough in dismantling a crime ring.
Distressing reports detail a surge of cutworms damaging crops across Winnlired. Farmers report extensive feeding on vegetables and grains, with fears of reduced yields and economic impact in the district.

London, May 16. All Labor members walked out of the house of commons in protest as Premier Baldwin moved a resolution limiting debate on the government Trade Bill to sixteen days. John Robert Clynes called the action contemptuous and disgraceful and said Labor would leave to protest gag and bullying.
New Orleans May 16 flood waters from ten crevasses in the Bayou des Glaises advance toward St Marys and St Martins parishes threatening Evangeline County. Levees along Bayou des Glaises are expected to fail over a fifty mile stretch as the flood spreads across Avocelles and St Landry parishes with thousands evacuated and more expected. Army engineers report six hundred square miles covered but rate of spread may slow.
Coroner's verdict cites an accidental landslide near Fire Hill Ont as the cause of Train No. 2 derailment. Three killed and fourteen injured in the Montre al to Port Arthur route. A temporary track surrounds the landslide as wreckage clearance continues.
