Ottawa May 16 a net cost of 09 90 per ton for hauling coal from Lethbridge to Toronto was given by W B Lanigan general freight traffic manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway before the house committee of mines and minerals He said the cost was calculated on 30 car trains at 16 tons capacity and that as a businessman he favors profits.
New York May 16 customs officers seized the British registered steamer Yankton as she entered port for quarantine. Grounds for seizure were not disclosed. The Yankton last sailed for Havana on February 38 and has been sighted near Montauk Point near Rum Row. An irrigation dam at Grand Forks British Columbia broke causing fifty thousand dollars in damage.
