Hilda fire ruled accidental by fire commissioner
The Office of the Fire Commissioner declares the 2017 Hilda wildfire accidental. Origin traced to a burn pit at Roseglen Hutterite Colony with embers smoldering unseen, reignited by Oct 17 winds. About 35,000 hectares burned, 200 livestock killed, home destroyed, $29 million uninsured damages, and a volunteer firefighter died.
