Berlin reports warn that the peace terms at Versailles hypnotize the German people and spark gravest apprehensions. Paris dispatches note the council of four forming a sub committee to handle German notes and reparations protests.
Cassandra docks in Montreal carrying 1 683 troops from the Third Fourth Nineteenth Forty eighth and Sovereity fifth battalions and some crew, with calls on routes to Toronto Kingston Hamilton Ottawa and western Lromys aboard. The vessel also lists contingents connected to the Princess Pats.
A statement issued today by Julius Barnes reports a reduction in New York wheat deliveries. The note follows a prolonged conference with Mr Barnes and grain industry representatives including handlers, millers, and bakers.

Ottawa May 14 The commons committee adopted a sub committee report on titles recommending no address to the king to ban hereditary or general titles for British subjects in Canada but allowing professional or vocational terms. It accepts Right Honourable and Honorable titles and favors continuing military medal wear. The report was presented by W S Pleiding A McMaster W F Cockshutt and Dr Whidden with Pleiding分 expressing reservations on parts of the report.
Executive committee of the Agricultural Society decided to hold the usual fair shortly after the Calgary Stampede. Medicine Hat should not miss a year without the fair and the post Stampede date would attract attractions and farm product exhibits.
Montauk Point May 14 The naval dirigible 0 6 left town for St John Newfoundland on a tentative flight. If coastal performance is satisfactory an Atlantic crossing attempt may follow. The airship lifted at 8 am and reached its expected 50 mph cruising speed. The voyage covers about 1 200 miles and could take 24 hours.
A Montreal based company organizes to trade furs in northern Canadian waters and the Quelien region, aiming to extend its reach to Arctic markets and establish trading posts along the coast.
Delegates from the Number Four division of the Railway Shop Federation met with the Railway Board in Montreal on May 12 to consider shopmen demands. The session is expected to last several days and so far has been satisfactory. The US railway administration has not yet decided, raising concern that the Canadian talks may be delayed.
Caroline Donner seeks re possession of a Gray-Dart car from Henry Hoffman in the Supreme Court before Justice Walsh. Gus Donner exchanged cars with the defendant paying 25 dollars and painting part of his house. Plaintiff alleges defects concealed by the defendant and that the car stopped three times in a quarter mile while the defense cites pedal and driver error. judgment on damages reserved but ruling favors returning the car.
Paris May 14 The Italian delegates to the peace conference no longer insist on fulfillment of the secret London treaty. They seek an adjustment of eastern Adriatic territorial questions based on recent talks. The status of the Flames remains under discussion as the plan to make it a free city like Dang is not yet acceptable.
In the police court before Magistrate Rae on Thursday two citizens were charged and fined $2.00 with $3.50 costs for not having rear lights on automobiles.
Halifax May 14 Canadian officers aboard the Royal George protested against Rev Brother Thomas A Rahilly of Cork Ireland landing in Canada. Rahilly defended his trip as private business and noted he founded Montreal schools in 1911. He criticized Sinn Fein and described Ireland as enslaved, urging independence.
Ottawa May 11 Hon S W Rowell president of the privy council announces a resolution to raise NWMP pay. Eight staff sergeants receive five dollars per day while sergeants and other ranks gain between one dollar eighty five and two fifty per day. Life pensions are provided and recruiting for the force continues nationwide.
Major A. Ek. McColl a Pelleville physician and Liberal leader has died. The longtime figure in local medicine and politics was known for his public service and professional contributions. His passing leaves a gap in the community and the Liberal ranks.
London May 14 The Italians are landing large forces at Zara and Sebenico on the Dalmatian coast according to a Reuters dispatch from Belgrade. Troops are being moved eastward and fortifying the ridge passes.
New York on May 14 Cor N Collin a judge at the court of special session urged anti dote like drink dispensaries and a law granting a liberal alcohol share in patent medicines as a remedy if prohibition is strictly enforced he warned it could worsen alcohol related harm by boosting drug addictions and criticized ban on any alcohol for beverage use.
In the House of Commons Col Amery states war expenditures by dominions: Canada about £995 million, Australia 4 in 4 terms, New Zealand 26.5, South Africa and Newfoundland figures noted as well with unspecified totals. The reply to Sir J Norton shows broad expenditure across the British dominions during wartime.
May 14 report notes Dominion lands were sold under homestead entry by multiple parties whose duties will be checked by interior and civil service agents. The action is described as a restraint between interior and the solicitor board. Temporary reservations will be discontinued and the socialment board will seek cooperation of municipalities to gather information on lands from local sources.
Toronto police report that the condemned fugitive Fredk McCullough hid money and stolen silks worth about 16 000 in the basement of the old Beith Welcome League building. He escaped jail, hid in the city, then planned a getaway with the cash. Authorities say silk remained in the cellar during the search.
