J Broker a young German claiming farmer’s son appeared before Magistrate Rae on the charge of stealing a bicycle from city foreman T E Elder yesterday afternoon. After evidence the verdict found the accused guilty and remanded him till tomorrow for sentence.
A man took the foreman’s bicycle on Main Street and fled toward Dunmore hill before being caught. Constable Towler and the foreman detained him as he attempted to climb the hill. The accused claimed permission and later said he borrowed it to go to Roosevelt. The magistrate found the evidence sufficient for conviction and he faces sentence tomorrow. Two Greeks Petreson and Gull clashed in a separate candy store dispute. Gull accused Petreson of striking him, but the case was dismissed after contradictory testimony and the magistrate criticized the filing of the charge.
Mr. Frank H. Gheen receives government lease for 1920 acres of gas and oil lands near Seven Persons. His new company Frank H. Gheen Jr. Oil and Gas Co. Ltd plans early oil borings and has arranged with Seven Persons to sell gas and water. Seattle was chosen for the Shriners convention.
May 14 reports describe a large fire in Stewart British Columbia destroying the chief hotel and several stores. The blaze, described as widespread, marks a major incident for the town near Prince Rupert with emergency crews on site.
N. B. Pearson the citys newly appointed gas expert leaves tonight for St Louis to attend the Gas Association of America convention. The four day session will bring together gas experts and engineers from across the continent to discuss industry topics and new inventions.

Ottawa May 14 Premier Borden explained the government plan to aid the Canadian Northern Railway. He outlined that 100,379,000 still needed to finish the road, with 58,473,982 already in company securities and subsidies. He argued subsidies are paid in installments and final payments await completion, defending past expenditures and noting no extra profits to Mackenzie and Mann beyond common stock allocations.
Ald Morrow, chairman of the pub lic works committee, said central park streets have dis agreeable conditions but no action until sidewalks are finished. City plans several miles of sidewalks. until completion street grading cannot proceed. Of 74000 dollars for street grading a fair share will fund central park and hill improvements, with streets becoming as good as residents desire.
Mayor Brown announced the appointments for the mixed farming commission naming E. L. Chudleigh A. J. Matthews Deputy Sheriff John Benson W. B. Willcox and Mr Brown superintendent of the demonstration farm The commission will hold district meetings with talks on mixed farming plus dry farming expertise to aid new settlers Edmonton's department of agriculture will assist and Duncan Marshall offers speakers from agricultural schools The group aims to encourage market participation and better farming methods with further plans to be released soon.
Lydia Brahman suffered a severe head injury when a crank from a wind mill struck her at noon on Saturday May 2. Her parents rushed her to Bow Island, then Medicine Hat where Dr. Smyth performed immediate surgery. She remained under care as her condition improved by Tuesday.
