After a week of effort 700 firefighters claimed victory as Manitoba blazes were extinguished or contained and Saskatchewan fires halted. In Manitoba five hundred men battled for 72 hours with planes aiding the effort to shield The Pas and Prince Albert area.
George Clarence Knight a 22 year old Great War veteran and CPR baggage room worker lies in hospital with a .22 rifle wound to the forehead and a discharged shell found in the rifle. No witness accounts explain the accident at 929 Second Street as family members search the kitchen and monitor his condition.
Mr L N Laidlaw KC and Mr Harland Yuil have returned from a business trip to the East with details of their work and potential opportunities forthcoming.
The $2,000,000 will leaving property to John and Mrs. John A. Furlong was abandoned. Judge L. G. Stubbs had ordered probate in solemn form and a question hearing begins tomorrow. A formal inquiry into the will’s circumstances is set under Judge Stubbs’ direction.

Winnipeg records two deaths from motor crashes over the weekend including Ian Maclean eight son of Manitoba University President J A MacLean who died from injuries after a bicycle swerved into a truck. Seven others remained in hospital with four reported as having slight chances of recovery.
Edmonton reports George K. Jackson, slayer of Nell Pendleton, was committed for trial at Fort Saskatchewan on Saturday afternoon after being found in custody as a convict at large. He is placed in provincial jail under Alberta Police supervision while federal authorities decide next steps with the Minister of Justice.
The Saturday night rainfall reached 0.12 inch locally and further precipitation spread from Swift Current to Calgary. Reports to CPR offices indicate three to eight hours of rain between Brooks and Calgary with lighter showers between Bassano and Empress. Rain persisted from Maple Creek to Medicine Hat and along the eastern Empress subdivision since 8 a.m.
High CFR officials including H J Humphreys visited the city for a survey of the West. preparations reportedly point to appointing a new General Manager of Western Lines. Grant Hall plans pension retirement this fall, with D C Coleman expected to succeed in Montreal followed by Neil in the top post. Humphreys is remembered in Medicine Hat from 1915.
Rain has fallen across Lomond to Arrowwood all morning, with persistent showers reported along the route and officials urging caution for travelers and local activities.
The coroner's jury ruled that W J Thomas died from injuries received riding in a Plymouth car owned and operated by David Morrison of Medicine Hat en route from Redcliff to Medicine Hat at the Fourth Street and Second Avenue NW intersection on May 11 1929. Morrison was arrested for manslaughter, released on bail, with further court adjournment to 10 a.m. Wednesday. The inquest heard Morrison recount attending a football match and a Legion hall gathering. Thomas sat in the back of the car as it turned and rolled after a left turn, leading to the fatal injuries.
Ottawa May 13 A vote of want of confidence in the government will be called in the house of commons on the estimates of the department of immigration. An amendment from the Conservative benches concerns the administration of the department. Appropriations for this department will not be discussed for several days.
Casablanca Morocco May 13 wireless reports say the Dutch tanker Barendrecht, returning to port after trying to save others, has four crew dead and one injured from a boiler explosion fifty miles at sea. The ship previously aided Ruth Elder and George Haldeman in 1927 and rescued Imperator survivors in 1926 off Barcelona.
In Kovno Lithuania on May 13 a student named Vasilius was identified as one of the attackers on Premier Valdemaras after being badly wounded by his own bomb. Earlier the premier survived a gunfire attack that killed an aide and wounded others. Firefighters also battled a blaze at a Gun Club shack and handled a gas main fire in a nearby lane.
Three men on a CPR freight train jumped to safety as a work train collided with it near Caron Saskatchewan, 18 miles west of Moose Jaw. Fifteen cars and a locomotive were wrecked, the caboose of the work train destroyed, and traffic delayed until repairs by CPR crews.
In Saskatoon on May 13 the bodies of Mrs Muriel E Wilson 35 and her four children Laura nine Louisa five Marjorie three and Glenn five months will be buried. Her husband W A Wilson cannot explain the motive for the quadruple slaying and death by self strangulation. A letter at the home Friday mentions forgiveness and praise for him.
The House of Commons approved appropriations totaling 7 560 620 for harbor and river works across the Dominion. Ontario and British Columbia receive the largest shares, with 2 633 300 and 1 087 300 respectively. Saskatchewan and Alberta earmark 132 800 for harbors and rivers, while Manitoba gets 77 600. A broad dredging program and numerous wharf and protection projects are authorized, including detailed allocations for rivers, lakes, piers, and dyking. A skeptic note from J C Brady prompts questions to the Public Works Minister.
