Belfast May 13. Nominations for the two Irish parliaments carried out today with no contests in the Southern Parliament and four Trinity College Dublin nominees outside Belfast. Northern Parliament seats feature forty Unionists twenty Sinn Feiners twelve Nationalists and five Socialists.
The Peninsula and Oriental liner Manera ashore near Cherbourg following a fog collision with the Patella. The 1,100 aboard were uninjured and to be handed to shore. the ship may be floated later today.
Vancouver officials demand the dissolution of unlawful coal combines in the city. Acting premier Farris warns of prosecutions for price manipulation and past offences, and urges stronger weight checking to protect consumers after a 75 cent a ton redirection.
Cincinnati May 14 The executive council of the American Federation of Labor discussed high living costs and recommended tying wages to the cost of living. It argued workers deserve more than a decent living wage.
Prelate district in Sas katchewan seeks rain cessation and sends a request to a rainmaker. Mr. F S Ratliff received the wire from Mr. Norman Deaxen of Prelate, a member of the United Agricultural Association executive committee. The request suggests a ten day vacation to allow land seeding after weeks of heavy rain.
Toronto May 13 The Ontario license board will charge an additional one dollar per bottle in about a week as a justified proportion of the federal duty rise. The move comes instead of exploiting the existing $2.50 increase in liquor prices authorized by the Federal Budget.

Berlin May 13 The chancellor Josep Wirth declared Germany will pursue a policy to fulfill the Entente ultimatum and its promises on reparations He urged equitable Allied decisions on Upper Silesia and warned that Allies should play fair in disposing of the Upper Silesia question Dr Otto Goerperts resignation from the peace section of the foreign ministry was reported The move follows belief the Allies terms exceed the peace treaty
Great improvement is planned for the grounds around the G W V A club house. Trees will be planted carragana set out and a bowling green laid out at the rear. A big gun from Riverside Park was moved to the club house yesterday and the other gun will be placed there this afternoon. The G W V A has bought sixteen bowls and will use the Armoury bowling green until the club house green is ready.
London May 13 The British Admiralty announced that about 200 destroyers 25 battleships and 50 light cruisers have vanished from the navy list in recent months and were sold to British firms for breaking up the ships.
Nelson Spencer a native of York County New Brunswick was nominated in convention as standard bearer of the National Liberal and Conservative Association for the federal bye election. He moved to Medicine Hat in 1902 worked at the CPR roundhouse later in Tweed & Stewart store and formed Spencer & Todd after buying J. K. Drinnan in 1907. He served in World War I and held command of the 31st Battalion before returning to business and politics including service in the Alberta Legislative Assembly and Medicine Hat mayoral office.
Col Nelson Spencer was unanimously chosen as the candidate for the forthcoming Federal by election at a National Liberal Conservative convention. Dr Smyth withdrew. Spencer outlined policy and will publish details tomorrow. Resolutions praised Sir Arthur Sifton and Meighen, urged pension relief, and pressed CPR and CN rail completions to link Leader to Medicine Hat and Hanna to Acadia Valley.
Cleveland reports warn that twenty thousand members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers are jobless, about a quarter of the total. Warren S. Stone cites wage movements and recalls Woodrow Wilson’s promise to back government action against rising living costs and profiteering. A special committee may review last summer’s unauthorized strike, and deposits at the co operative bank rose from 650 000 to 7 000 000, with calls for similar banks elsewhere and extended aid to North Dakota.
In a May 13 House of Commons speech Lloyd George called the Polish insurrection in Upper Silesia a violation of the Versailles treaty. He said the treaty secured Polish freedom, and Poland was the last European nation with grounds to complain, praising Italy Britain and France for her liberty.
The Liberal Convention Committee meets at the News Office Wednesday at 8 pm to select city delegates and discuss business. The convention on the 20th will be held at Oddfellows Hall and not at the Empress theatre due to a prior arrangement.
London May 13 Mr Lloyd George said in the House of Commons there were revolutionary movements involved but he could not say how much foreign money subsidized them. The government is watching the situation closely and he has faith in the good sense of the British people.
In Morelia Michoacan capital a large Catholic crowd clashed with police aided by radicals. Fifty people were killed and scores wounded during the confrontation over alleged desecration of churches from the previous Sunday.
Supreme court action in district court involves the estate of Michael Leonard claiming $4379.35 against the Parish of St Patrick as maker of promissory notes for $3000 and $250 with interest. Dispute centers on Rev Fr Cadieux authority to bind the parish. Hearing paused for one week for claim amendment. Counsel listed: C S Blanchard for plaintiff and J McLeod Sinclair KC for defendant.
Brandon reports four degrees of frost last night damaged garden track on low land but caused no reported damage to wheat or winter rye. Report notes district impact remains limited with crops largely unharmed.
Eight cars of a Quebec Montreal Canadian Pacific Railway train derailed last night about half a mile from St Arthelmey station near Louisville. A large number of passengers escaped with only slight shock. The derailment is believed caused by split rails.
Ottawa May 13 The Nova Scotia coal operators refused to produce their cost sheets before the Parliamentary Fuel Committee. The defiance prompted committee members to seek H F Gisborn parliamentary counsel to determine powers to compel attendance and proper legal steps.
Montreal May 13 Premier Tare chereau of Quebec stated at a Quebec Manufacturers Association banquet that the outcome of Canada U.S. tariff talks is unknown. He affirmed that as long as he governs the province, the order in council banning exports of its raw wealth to the United States will stay in force.
The Manchester Cotton Spinners and Manufacturers Association announces a 50 percent wage reduction in the weaving section affecting 300 000 operatives. A similar notice has been issued in the spinning section.
