Italian Army gains on Motte Corno front in Italy

Italian troops on the mountain front captured dominant positions at Motte Corno, destroyed fortifications, and took about 100 prisoners with two guns and machine guns. Operations occurred in the Arsa Valley near Trent and Rovereto as Austrian defenses failed.

Toronto street railway employees oppose training women conductors

Toronto May 13. At a mass meeting the organized employees passed a resolution refusing to operate cars or restrain women staffing on cars. They argue the work is too strenuous for women and that vacancies should be filled by refined soldiers. They also warned of a streetcar strike as wage disputes continue.

Capt Fitzsimmons Named Alberta Fuel Administrator

Calgary May 1 Captain Ef T Fitzsimmons longtime Calgary coal man and veteran has been named fuel administrator of Alberta. He will report to John T Sterling chief administrator and inspector of mines. The bureau aims to secure next winter s coal supply as harvest season ends and box cars are diverted to crops. Alberta coal operators will push mines to full capacity while western Canada coal becomes sole source. Fitzsimmons enlisted in 1915 after managing Davenport collieries in the Crow's Nest Pass and coal operations in the Taber and Drumheller fields.
