In West Palm Beach a small claims court granted Wayne Vassello and Shana Lane $1,300 plus costs after their dog Max, a 3.5 kilogram rat terrier, was killed when a neighbor's free Burmese python grabbed him. The couple said Max was part of the family and would have been ring bearer at their wedding. The snake survived and the owner argued Vassello partly caused the incident by leash removal.
The Conservative budget cleared a confidence vote 175 to 113 with Bloc Quebecois backing. Premier Stephen Harper’s plan, opposed by Liberals and NDP critics, includes a controversial child care change and direct baby bonus. amendments may follow in the Senate and House.
Medicine Hat News reports the municipal planning commission approved a temporary outdoor patio expansion for Rustler's Corral from June 9 to June 18. Snow fence and temporary posts secure the enlarged area, which will be removed after June 18.
Ralston school council offers a community cookbook to raise last-minute money for a $100,000 safer playground project.
