Prime Minister Pearson and Opposition Leader Diefenbaker pressed Parliament to decide between a centennial constitutional conference to overhaul Canada’s framework or gradual reform. Diefenbaker urged full talks with all parties and regions while Pearson argued a cautious approach to avoid a breakdown.
Agriculture Minister Greene promised immediate help to southern Alberta ranchers after two April snowstorms and a feed shortage. Government will fund feed access and an airlift moved about 250 tons. ranchers say 12,000 tons daily needed for 400,000 cattle amid continued calf losses and replant delays. Local graze land remains buried under new snow with more expected.
