Rioters looted shops and battled police as about 900 jobless men marched on the Colonial Building in St John’s Newfoundland. 200 reserve officers used batons to restore order while warnings of further clashes circulated.
In Gull Lake Saskatchewan ten days before his death a paralytic husband asked his wife to give him something to end his misery. Mrs. George R. Reed testified at an inquest that she gave a half teaspoon of poison in milk and left the cup by his bed. Reed later claimed he was poisoned and said he would use a gun on Wright if possible. The inquest ends with Mrs. Reed facing a preliminary hearing on murder charges along with Clarence Wright.
The May first transfer of the eastern irrigation project from the CPUR to the settlers' association brought many personnel changes. Among those leaving are Miliott Archibald Richardson and others, including Chalmers, Ross, Denison, Baird, Bark, Gibson, Ixeay, Philpott, and more. Some will be reassigned, others seek different work, and it will take time to form a permanent staff.
In Toronto May 10 former Canadian trade minister Hon. F. H. Stevens urged action against concentrated wealth. He warned Fascism or Marxism loom if 13 capitalists controlling vast industrial wealth are not compelled to join a conference with loan, insurance, and trust officers to reset policy for national welfare. He criticized government inaction and called for federal leadership to curb elite control.

After a five hour meeting in Bucharest representatives of the Balkan states agreed to permit Bulgaria and Hungary to rearm if they join a non aggression and mutual assistance pact with Yugoslavia Romania Turkey Czechoslovakia and Greece.
The Prince of Wales rode in the state carriage through decorated Cardiff streets as part of Welsh jubilee celebrations for the King's silver jubilee and laid a wreath on the Welsh national memorial. London dispatch notes King George and Queen Mary opening four jubilee drives with royal sons joining in across London and cheers from seventy thousand school pupils.
Sydney May 11 Returns from New South Wales and Queensland state elections show both governments returned. In NSW the United Australia party led by Premier B. S. Stevens defeated Labor though with a smaller majority. In Queensland the moderate Labor government of Premier I. Forgan Smith won and increased its assembly majority.
Rain and snow struck Saskatchewan and Alberta driving delays in farm tasks while Manitoba was expected to receive more precipitation.
A Basel relief committee dispatch reports 17 anti Nazi emigrants abducted in the Salzburg district of Austria during a bus tour. The group, described as German refugees, vanished as Nazis grow bolder amid ongoing tensions in Paris.
At Kempton Park in England a dead heat occurred in the Great Jubilee handicap for the second time in race history. Top weight Wychwood Abbott and low weighted British Quota finished the 11-horse field mile and a quarter in a tie, with Iron Grey third three lengths back. Wychwood Abbott was owned by O. V. Watney and ridden by Harry Wragg.
In a whiteout near High River Earl Knowlen of Seattle misjudged a turn and his car overturned, bursting into flames. He and Calgary companion Neil Murphy escaped with minor injuries. A Calgary head on crash left 58 year old John Robertson seriously injured.
The Medicine Hat Social Credit party nominated four candidates for the provincial election at Moose Hall, with A A H Reilly presiding. Candidates include A A H Reilly, Dr J L Robinson, J A King, and W Willis of Redcliff. final selection by Wm Aberhart next Thursday at the Arena.
Harold Daise urged fellow stockmen in the dust area to brush off backs of cattle when rain clouds threaten. He noted dust so thick that after showers Russian thistles sprouted on the animals.
George Sommer, a Vale district farmer, pleaded bail at the R C M P court list evening to illegal possession of liquor. Magistrate Ellis deferred sentence until May 31 to allow crop work and released him on his own recognizance. Prosecution followed a surprise RC MLE raid on the Sommer farm discovering a still, moonshine, and two barrels. Sommer was held until trial. Carl B. Collins of Stand ard faced speeding and failing to yield charges near Redcliff, fined in total costs.
Major C. H. Douglas praised William Aberhart while in Winnipeg, saying the Alberta leader embodies popular will for economic reform. He noted a 25 dollar monthly bonus is technically possible but politically hard to implement, and declined to discuss his system in detail.

May 10 Halifax report that Magister G E Berringer heard Eldon Tanner swear out a general information against RCMP Captain J C Kelly of the Acadian. No charge or section named. magistrates questioned legality. Captain Kelly fired five rifle shots as a liquor laden boat fled near Lunenburg Nova Scotia.
A labor dispute at the Bralorne and Pioneer mines pushes workers to seek government intervention in British Columbia. The strike involves approximately one thousand nine hundred men and has disrupted operations at both sites.
