The electric plant machinery will ship from England and reach Montreal on May 14. Manufacturers will rush the equipment across the country, aiming for arrival before June 1.
New York dispatches report Rev Dr Newell Dwight Hillis of Brooklyn faces a $20,000,000 fraud suit over coal land options on Graham Island Queen Charlottes. The case names James A Moore and Western Steel Corp, seeks rescission and trusteeship of lands, with lis pendens blocking deals pending plaintiffs’ claims.
New York May 11 The Treasury Department considers action for a Syrian rug importer who admitted smuggling under unusual conditions. An interpreter, used due to language barriers, taught him to import rugs as personal property. The importer paid blackmail to the interpreter who fled to Europe with records. The government may accept a 6000 settlement and not prosecute.
Robert Thoms drew attention of Chief Meiklejohn after entering a Chinese restaurant on South Railway and leaving without paying. He claimed to arrived that morning, was identified, and faced vagrancy charges in the police court. J Stansfield was held on a similar charge, while Albert Dupas forfeited a $5 bond for drunken and disorderly conduct.
The Imperial Bank of Canada will open in Medicine Hat, leasing space from Medicine Hat Printing and Publishing Co. in a Bedford stone and pressed brick block on Fourth Avenue at the rear of The News building. The bank will occupy half the ground floor, plans by W T Williams, tenders soon. The opening signals growing confidence in the city’s finances.

In Newburg New York on May 11 a joy ride turned fatal when a car borrowed by chauffeur John Campbell and Frank Minerly crashed into a ditch. Mrs Anna Tomer 24 died beneath the car and Mrs Pearl Grant 21 was injured. Campbell survived with a broken arm and fractured ribs. Minerly is missing. Campbell faces charges for car taking and manslaughter under state law.
The district court heard the Crown case this afternoon as the Williams trial continues. A continuance was taken yesterday to obtain witnesses from Inmine.
Ottawa reports Sir Wilfrid Laurier proposing May 23 to July 18 adjournment, with many sittings next week. Discussion covers Paterson's bill on clerks moving from outside to inside customs, salaries of collectors, and a faster Atlantic steamship service to rise to 21 knots. The Allan contract is extended one year, and mail carriage may switch to weight-based payment.
Telegraphic lines east of Brandon were crippled delaying dispatches and causing an interruption in the standard press service. The usual telegram flow was disrupted for a period, slowing the arrival of news.
A Calgary syndicate closed a deal for 30 acres off Grand View addition about a mile and a half west of city hall at 500 dollars an acre. The tract, subdivided earlier by local owners paying under 100 dollars per acre, is the first notable sale and may be offered to the market in the future.
In Ottawa the morning house clash pitted Berley against Geo E Foster over the Opposition's coronation contingent. Members claimed they refused selection due to promises they must pay their own way. Foster, heated, threatened resignation to Borden. Perley attempted to explain as Foster exited vowing to quit.

On May 12 at 8 oclock the Alexandra school auditorium hosts a concert to benefit the Students Dramatic Club. The program replays the Merchant of Venice Trial Scene and other pieces, with a 25 cent admission. Local talent supports the crowd expected.
LL Gato, owner of a ranch near Montana, arrived this morning in a 45 horsepower automobile while en route from Peoria Illinois. After securing new batteries he continued his journey. He reports good luck so far and no tire punctures. He left Peoria on March 19.
Corporal Wiedeman of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police arrived in the city this morning en route to Irvine where he will take up his duties.
Dreamland screens The World’s Championship Rasnyball Games of 1910 featuring the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Athletics with highlights of the decisive games and notable players. Also shown is The Toy Maker the Doll and the Devil, an Edison film likely to win favor, plus a special treat for patrons.
Albert Chevalier will perform in Medicine Hat on June 2 with Myron Whitney and Edna Showalter. Concessions were negotiated to bring the famed character artist to the western town, marking his smallest venue yet. Prices are 92.00 and 61.50, with general advance plans at Pingle's Drug Store.
Dodd, a worker on the Gordon ranch near the Red Deer, suffered serious injuries after the team he drove went out of control. Dr Boyd attended, dressed wounds, and Dodd was reported resting well before the doctor departed for the city.
New York May 11 Mothers of the brides blocked two weddings in Flushing and Brooklyn as a Catholic mother refused consent for Catholic Protestant matches. In the Walsh case Anna Irene Walsh twenty one was to wed Aaron Starke but her mother refused the match. The Schultz family also called off Anna Schultz planned marriage to Frederick Carmen noting religiousdifferences and her mother insisted on Catholic faith before consent.
