Premier E C Manning said Ottawa’s plan to start the 375 million Trans Canada natural gas pipeline in July would spur industrial development and Alberta’s economy, though reservations remain about export-first policy and possible delays. The loan of 72 million to Trans Canada Pipelines Ltd to start Alberta to Winnipeg construction was discussed, with Manning stressing an urgent market for surplus gas and federal risk minimal.

Railways Accept Majority Conciliation Board Report

Canadian railways and unions announced acceptance of the board majority for a new two year pact with 150 000 non operating employees. They will meet in Montreal Friday to draft the agreement and implement an 11 1 2 cent wage rise over 14 months, blocking a general strike.

After two days of talks the railways accepted an 11 percent wage increase for the non operating group over 14 months, ending post conciliation. Unions sought 18 percent plus a company health plan contribution in a two year frame, with strike risk eased by a Dominion wide licensing and traffic control push.

Bride dies in Nevada honeymoon crash on U.S. 95

A newlywed couple from Trail British Columbia were in a car accident near Las Vegas on U.S. 95. Drusilla A. Baubin Lenardon, 21, died. husband Guilio Norman Lenardon, 22, was in critical condition at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital. The crash occurred about 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas after the vehicle skidded 360 feet. The couple had honeymooned in Las Vegas and were returning home.

Jilted Lover Now in Jail

In Calgary Alfred Stewart 33 was disarmed of a loaded .22 pistol and knife by two detectives in his girlfriend’s home. He faced charges of entering a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offense and carrying offensive weapons. Stewart resisted violently as detectives tried to cuff him.

Important Meeting at City Hall Tonight

A public meeting in the council chambers begins at 7 30 this evening. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Medicine Hat milk producers association, it aims to arrange judging classes for livestock owned and shown by teenagers with the goal of establishing a 4-H club in the district soon.

300 Tots Receive Anti-Polio Shots

About 300 children from Medicine Hat city schools received Salk polio vaccine this week. Most were in grade one with others in grades two to four. Ages ranged six to nine. No boosters due to vaccine shortages. four Edmonton shipments arrived since mid April, with a booster plan if vaccines arrive.

Martial law extended in eastern Algeria amid rebel offensive

French authorities under Robert Lacoste imposed martial law in eastern Algeria covering Constanine and Bone to quell a 19 month rebellion. Rebels reportedly killed at least 14 in 46 eastern towns while heavy counter strikes in the west claimed at least 200 rebel lives. Miner Killed in East Coulee Rock Fall

A 33 year old miner, Michael Gombos of East Coulee, died in a rock fall at the Murray mine near East Coulee, about 7 30 p m Wednesday. His body was brought from the two mile shaft. One survivor is a seven month old son. RCMP and mine officials investigate the cause.
