A. telegram from the American Consul reports Stratford’s ex mayor and alderman Tom Brown died in Mexico City yesterday from heart failure. Brown, a lawyer, disappeared last New Year’s Eve leaving legitimacy concerns and inventories of life savings entrusted to him, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Liberal delegates will meet Friday at 8 p m in Park Hall to nominate a Legislature candidate for the Provincial constituency including the city Redcliff and Dunmore. Cypress riding delegates convene at 2 p m the same day in the same hall for a similar nomination. An Empress constituency convention is expected to be held in the afternoon at Park Hall.
In Ottawa on May 10 the House of Commons gave third reading to government bills regulating national administration, amending the Fish Inspection Act, expanding the Biological Board, adjusting RCMP pensions, and amending Judges annuities. Private members’ bills also reached third reading on Confederation Life, Highwood Western Railway time extension, Ottawa Electric Railway share change to no par, and desertion divorce. Post Office estimates were discussed in committee.
Tornado outbreaks in Oklahoma and Texas claimed eighty six lives over a week. In Eastern Oklahoma four more deaths were added as twisters damaged multiple communities from Kinta to near the Arkansas river. Gladys Downs, 21, died when a tornado hurled her home and crushed it on the ground.
The Canadian Club hosts a dinner at Hotel Cecil on Monday at 6 15 p.m. The speaker is Prof. F H Soward Rhodes scholar and University of British Columbia history professor and author on international affairs and Canadian history. Reservations should be made by phoning Horace Whiffin or J M Gilmour to secure accommodation. Prof. Soward arrives tonight and will likely stay at the Cecil over Sunday and Monday.
Detroit May 10, welterweight champion boxer Jack Thompson was rushed to hospital with profuse bleeding from eyes and nose after defeating Jackie Fields. Doctors described his condition as temporarily serious, with renal contusions noted by Dr Nathan Schaffer who treated him.
Over half an inch of moisture fell since Thursday night with .60 inch measured in the city by 5.30 a.m. Medicine Hat lies near the storm edge as reports say heavy rain from Medicine Hat to Swift Current, light showers at the western edge. The Soo Line Mills Flour Co. at Weyburn, recently destroyed by fire, will be rebuilt with modern equipment. The Toronto Globe notes Ottawa is guessing at a September election.

Edmonton reports the order in council dissolving the sixth Alberta Legislature at 11:00 am and writs calling a provincial election for June 19 are issued alongside.
Work completed on the New Club Cafe refrigeration plant at a cost of two thousand dollars. The unit is reportedly the city’s largest single refrigeration installation, with a back extension providing kitchen space and a thousand cubic feet capacity. A one hundred cubic foot front showcase, a connected water tank for cooling and cream storage, and near perfect service accompany the new system. The club also offers a deluxe road maps set for tourists, totaling about fifty dollars, and invites inspection of the plant.
Shanghai dispatch reports Sin Wan Pao detailing a four day raid in Yang-Yang district Henan province by 3,000 to 4,000 bandits. Some 15,000 villagers allegedly killed, villages burned, women and children slain, homes looted, and 500 captives marching to ransom.

In Ottawa May 10 Hon. R. B. Bennett Conservative leader attacked national parks as governed by federal rules in provinces, urging local control. He urged a home rule amendment for park populations while minister Charles Stewart defended federal authority to ensure uniformity and park survival.

Victoria May 10 Doukhobors from the prairies are moving into British Columbia by the carload Premier Tolmie told a Vancouver city council delegation during a discussion of unemployment He said the province bears the cost of handling last year s outbreaks while the Federal Government should help since it allowed the Doukhobors to come He asked why they are coming and suggested perhaps they think the parade earlier in the year is a model for them.
