RCMP investigate the death of Norman G. Yesny, 23, of Niagara Falls New York found six miles from Calgary city limits with hands and feet tied and a neck wrap. He carried between 200 and 500 dollars and may have been killed for the money. A .22 pistol is missing.
In Detroit the 130 member UAW Ford council voted unanimously to authorize a strike vote among 138,000 Ford employees nationwide. The move comes as bargaining continues with Ford, reflecting escalating labor negotiations across the company.
Canada’s 1954 net farm income fell to 1.1256 billion a drop of about one third from 1953. Gross receipts eased to 2.6247 billion as field crops and eggs declined, though livestock and dairy rose. Wheat plunged to 322.6 million and inventories shrank while operating costs eased about two percent. Western provinces show lower incomes with Manitoba 72.5 million, Saskatchewan 126.5 million, Alberta 177.0 million, British Columbia 35.5 million.

Rodney Brodie improved though still in critical condition at Illinois Research Hospital after awakening from a 51 hour coma. The three year old head joined Siamese twin separation survivor had been returned to hospital following brain bleeding, last lapsed into a coma Friday. The boy was separated from his twin Roger in a 12 hour operation on December 17 1952. Roger died 34 days later.
A large center section of the New York Coliseum under construction collapsed today in Manhattan. About 40 workers were trapped beneath cascading steel, concrete and wood as the skeleton structure gave way from the third floor downward. Police checked rosters to identify missing men while debris spread up to 40 feet.
An elderly man and his wife were shot in their suburban Lachine residence Saturday. Their 30 year old son in law is detained for questioning as police identify motives linked to a Friday rent dispute amid an ongoing inquest. Inspector Charron notes homicide charges await coroner verdict.

The Dominion Drama Festival opens in Regina with eight regional winners competing for a $1,500 prize. Governor-General Massey will close the event with 300 visitors from Canada and the U.S. Adjudicator is Mrs. Gerda Wrede from Finland, first woman to judge a national festival.
The 1956 Alberta Drama Festival will be staged in Medicine Hat May 16 17 and 18 at the new high school. Civic theatre officials expect a possibly longer schedule and multiple local and district entries from cities such as Lethbridge Brooks Ralston Red Deer Calgary and Edmonton.
West winds up to 50 miles an hour worsen flooding as the Qu Appelle Valley floods expand from Regina toward Manitoba. Dozens evacuated, Roundlake cottages destroyed, hotels endangered, and dikes bolstered in Brandon and along the river.
The Black Nugget coal mine seven miles southwest of Ryley was destroyed by fire with losses over 500000. Five CNR boxcars loaded with coal valued at 80000 each were wrecked. Owner Fred Irving of Calgary estimated his loss at 150000. No injuries. It was a surface operation being retired for summer. Cause undetermined. Partially insured.
