The 1912 tax rate for Medicine Hnt will be 16 1-2 mills, 6 1-2 mills higher than last year, with 7 1-4 mills for schools and 9 1-4 for general work. Last year was 6 mills for schools and 5 for general. Total assessable property is 7 012 585 dollars. The council will strike the rate at its May 20 meeting.

Rome reports dismiss the Turkish despatches from Rhodes claiming a great victory and 1000 Italian captives as false. The note says the Rhodes governor and aides are prisoners of the Italians and will be sent to Italy.
New York May 9 Daniel Willard president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and P H Morrissey former Brotherhood of Trainmen head were chosen as arbitrators by the eastern road and by the Locomotive Engineers. They expect to meet today to appoint five more arbitrators to form a seven man board.
James J Will, chairman of the Great Northern Railroad, arrives in New York and says Carl R Gray will become president. He hints changes ahead but states he and his son will remain on deck, both to join the executive committee, while details and succession remain unsettled.
The Kaiser Cigar Co. began operations this morning with eight employees producing an average of 250 cigars per man daily. When full staff is reached they expect to output about 2500 cigars daily.
In the Wm Barry vs Partridge case Barry claimed $73.80 for 123 hours at 60c with a $12 unpaid supplies counterclaim. Partridge offered $30 for 60 hours and a $21.50 supplies counterclaim. Judge Carpenter awarded Barry $43.70. J C Reeve v M A & E MacDonald yielded a $72.50 plaintiff judgment as no defence was offered.
Duluth Minnesota May 9 1915 Hill interests plan to mine and sell their own ore after United States Steel Corporation leases expire. D M Philbin notes there will be no cheap hill ore in the market and Hill interests will not grant further leases, aiming to deliver large quantities directly to buyers and improve per ton profits.

At council last night a vote of condolence passed and sent to Ogilvie Milling Co for the sudden death of Mr. F Thompson vice president who died in England. Mayor Spencer had previously met Thompson and Mr Black, the latter named as Thompson’s successor, during talks to bring the mill to town.

Macon Georgia May 9 Special to the News one of the most successful reunions of the United Confederate Veterans concluded with a large parade. Banks courts and many institutions were closed as the gray haired veterans sons and friends marched. Commander-In-Chief Walker and his staff the Georgia governor and guests reviewed the parade from a Cherry and Third streets stand.
In Pottsville on May 9 three men were injured in a fight between state police and idle anthracite miners at Minersville. Two were not expected to survive. Pickets hid along routes to the mines warning workers to stay home as company crews were sent home across Shamokin due to the coal suspension.
Winnipeg reports May wheat at 104 3 4 and oats around 49 5 8 as futures edged between gains and losses. In Minneapolis and Chicago trading, May wheat opened and closed at 116 3 8 and 118 respectively, with July and September moves showing minor shifts.
