Food prices jump 2.6 percent in April CPI climbs 1.1 percent
Statistics Canada reports food costs rose 2.6 percent from March to April, driving the 1.1 percent overall CPI gain. Food prices are up 12.9 percent in 12 months, with poultry up 6.6 percent and egg prices rising 8.5 percent. Bakery and cereal prices dipped 0.2 percent.

Indian militants lay down weapons at Wounded Knee
In Wounded Knee South Dakota Indian militants surrendered their arms ending the February occupation. About 40 Indians gathered by a church as two face federal charges and are to be arraigned in Rapid City. The rest leave the reservation and arms are turned over to justice department officials. Armored personnel carriers were withdrawn.
