Ottawa May 8 Frank Blais urged the federal government to aid unemployment by developing natural water, agricultural, lumber and mining resources in Abitibi. He proposed a road from Amos to Chibougamau extending to James Bay, with cross roads as development proceeds. He argued roads are essential and federal action should proceed as a national matter.

Edmonton May 7 The province has received hundreds of suggestions on the provincial sales tax from trade bodies and individuals in two weeks. Provincial Treasurer Jarles Cockroft said the communications are being reviewed and that feasible plans will be considered, though the tax is not yet to be imposed as final.
