Cipher message from the Vera Cruz commander alarms Secretary Garrison, prompting him to depart a White House wedding festivity and convene advisers. No decision yet reached as tensions rise over Mexican operations and the arrival of a large armed force under General Funston is anticipated.
Washington reports say the War department discussed a strong American reinforcement for General Funston in Vera Cruz to secure lives and property and possibly campaign in Mexico City. Secretary Garrison and the president reviewed the plan after a cipher message from Vera Cruz and a Tampico oil-well incident. He refused to detail further, noting no troop movements had been ordered. Premier Borden forwarded Western premiers’ support for the Canadian Northern railway plan.
Washington May There will be no further attacks upon non combatants by bombs from aeroplanes at Mazatlan as Admiral Howard has cabled the navy department from that port. General Obergon has agreed to a neutral zone and pledged not to injure foreigners or their property. Howard notes Americans inside the Constitutionalists line feel safe and will not abandon Mazatlan. The ban on trade now extends to Mexican vessels as well as American, stopping all trade on the west coast.
The Canadian Pacific Railway relies on Medicine Hat natural gas for lighting passenger coaches across its lines, replacing Pintsch gas since 1906. Medicine Hat provides high pressure gas from twenty wells within city limits, filling tanks in each coach for long burning capacity.
The passenger steamer America of Boothline, aground on a reef near Two Harbors since Tuesday, was freed last night and returned to Duluth harbor. She will enter dry dock for repairs once water is pumped out. divers found a hole punctured beneath her boilers, with full damage not yet known.
Secretary Bryan acknowledged a note from South American mediators stating Huerta accuses U S forces at Vera Cruz of violating the armistice. Ambassadors Dagama, Naon, and Suarez were present as mediation continued. No date for a reply or further talks was disclosed.
The United States War Department studies a reply to General Funston in Vera Cruz urging immediate large reinforcements. Huerta has sent a protest letter accusing U S actions of violating the armistice and warlike conduct.
Refugees from Mexico City arrived in New Orleans aboard the steamer Monterey and began leaving for homes across the country today. Six hundred twenty three were landed from quarantine where the vessel had been since Sunday.
Hotson of Hotson Leader and Goule returned from Edmonton where his firm secured the contract for 15 miles of cement sidewalks to be laid this year. The survivors of the Columbian have been sent to their homes.
Neville Sask May 8 Emille Ordonneau was shot on his farm in what doctors and police call cold blooded murder. Neighbor La cheque, believed insane, is in custody after threats against Ordonneau and his brother. Police found four loaded shot guns at the suspect’s shack.
Gen Gustav Maas who led Federal troops at Vera Cruz fled before the American invasion and is now believed to amass troops outside the city for an attack. He has carried out several desultory attacks on the city since U S forces occupied Vera Cruz.

Washington May 7 San Luis Potosi has fallen into the hands of the Constitutionalists according to information transmitted by Secretary Bryan to a caller today.
A Hot Springs despatch says Sir Edmund Osler of Toronto, a Canadian parliament member, has practically recovered from lung congestion and will return home Saturday. His illness was due to a cold contracted playing golf in the rain with Prime Minister Robert Borden.
Remains of the late H. P. Regan are being sent to Ottawa from Johnson's Undertaking Establishment this evening. A brother of the deceased from Edmonton was in the city yesterday making arrangements.

Leeds reports Lillian Lenton a militant suffragette jailed for a year at the assizes for setting fire to Westfield House Doncaster in June last year. She had been released after a hunger strike awaiting trial, disappeared, and was rearrested in Brighton days ago.
St. Catharines Ontario May reports that K A Lancaster, chairman of the Dominion railway committee, is seriously ill in bed at his home. He had intended to rest by the sea after Ottawa duties but postponed plans as his condition worsened from arrival.
London May 8. In Grimsby the bye election draws intense interest as Liberal Alfred Bannister faces Unionist T G Tickler in a fish and jam race famed for local ties. The town hinges on fishing, trawlers, and a former popular Liberal-Unionist MP, with Liberals eyeing a potential pickup amid strong local loyalties.

Indianapolis May 8 The United Mineworkers of America executive board said it was not wise for miners to strike nationwide at this time but would push the Colorado strike with appeals for funds. A statement blamed John D Rockefeller Jr for not settling the dispute and warned there can be no turning back while deploring violence and property loss.
San Francisco May 8 Earl Grey former Governor General of Canada announces the personnel of a syndicate that plans to spend British money to purchase two large air companies in California. Associates include Thomas Royden William Anderson St lam Garston Sir Edward Ward and Andrew Weir. Earl Grey to chair the directorate. The British government is not backing the deal.
