Another Failure to Sustain Life Through Artificial Respiration
Chicago May 7. The second failure in recent weeks of artificial respiration to save life occurred last night with the death of Harry C. Thompson, 52, after sixty six hours of palmoter treatment. Earlier Albert Frisek died after friends kept him alive nearly one hundred hours by sustained chest pressure. Thompson, ill with pneumonia, would have died Tuesday without firemen using a pulmotor to provide oxygen at half hour intervals. Dr John J Hesser said death came from heart strain due to oxygen administration as well as lung disease.
