Victoria May 7. Commissioner Alexander Henderson K C reports prices charged to the public for coal in British Columbia are exceedingly high. He recommends dissolving coal concerns that maintain these prices and prosecuting those responsible, in a report to the Minister of Mines made public.
Prime Minister Lloyd George told 5000 supporters in Maidstone that if Germany disarms under the Versailles treaty she may press the Allies to insist on Poland’s disarmament. In Berlin officials and Reichstag leaders debated reparations and the formation of a new cabinet amid foreign policy tensions.

Newport Illinois May 5 Rear Admiral W S Sims will sail from New York on May 14 aboard the Cedric to Cambridge England to receive a doctor of laws degree. The honor will be conferred May 1.

Seeding nearly complete covering similar acreage to last year with 15 to 20 percent of oat acreage seeded. Edmonton May 7 northern Alberta wheat seeding about 70 percent complete and oats 15 to 20 percent. Wheat acreage up 5 percent while oat acreage down 5 percent.
London May 7 The Transport Workers Federation issued no manifesto to members and ordered a ban on handling all foreign coal brought to England to support the striking miners. Similar orders were issued by the National Union of Railwaymen in late April.
Messrs Wm Crippen and Claude Chinn of the Palouse Washington spent part of the week in this district investing in farm lands. They were guided across a large territory by Mr F B Ratliff and Mr Everson. Ratliff predicts many Washington men will travel here by car once mountain roads improve. Abraham Lincoln quote appears.

Washington May 6. The senate passed an emergency immigration bill fixing admission of aliens to 3 percent of each nationality resident in 1910. The measure is elective for 14 months from 15 days after enactment. Passage vote 78 to 1. Senator Reed of Missouri opposed. The bill as sent to conference bans exemptions beyond the 3 percent limit.
A public meeting about the swimming pool will be held in the city council chambers at Gerock on Wednesday evening. The pool proposition appears closer to completion than in many years, and organizers expect strong citizen turnout.
