The Lusitania is reported sunk off the Irish coast with casualties including W. T. Lemmon of Winnipeg who enlisted in Canada. Reports describe telegrams warning passengers not to sail and conflicting claims on the ship’s sinking and survival of many aboard.
British reports confirm the Cunard liner Lusitania was torpedoed around 2 p.m. off Oldhead, Kinsale Ireland, with 1253 passengers aboard. Government railway shifts announced last night assign F. H. Brady as General Superintendent of the National Transcontinental Railway from Quebec to Winnipeg and oversee Lake Superior Grand Trunk Pacific operations. J. K. McNeillie named General Superintendent of Intercolonial and Prince Edward Island lines east of Quebec with Moncton as HQ. R. B. Richardson moves from Moncton to Fort William in the transcontinental system.
