Reports from W A P New Orleans dated May 7 describe floods in Pointe Coupee parish threatening hundreds with drowning as levee breaches isolate communities. Morgan reports many refugees confined south of Torras with boat shortages hindering rescue and relief efforts.
The Ottawa meeting of the railway commission scheduled for today is postponed due to Judge Mabee's death. Cases set for hearing will likely be heard next session. Commissioner D'Arcy Scott Prof McLean Dr Mills and A B Goodeve are in attendance with department heads and will depart tonight.
A passenger train on the Southern Railway from Washington to Jackson derailed three miles north of Columbus. The crash overturned two sleepers and two slopers, injuring a score or more people after an axle broke on a driving wheel.
Matibkita, a 35 year old Indian, charged with abducting Wepatewin daughter of Geo Wepatewin two weeks ago. They disappeared from the Griswold reserve, were arrested in Montana, and brought back. He was remanded until next Tuesday and the girl placed in an Indian school.

Enterprise reports F. W. Hess general manager and H. Bowman of Minneapolis with Supt. MacBean visiting Revelstoke to establish a lumber yard at the Forks ahead of CPR service. Supplies will come from Medicine Hat and rafted down the river. R. C. Harris and Milton Cory accompanied the party. Bowman plans to spend a couple of weeks in Medicine Hat this spring.
The Ninth United States Cavalry based at Fort Russell in Cheyenne Wisconsin will be sent to the Mexican border. The War Department ordered the Colorado and Southern Railroad to seize stock and box cars for immediate transport to Fort Russell. Union Pacific at Omaha also ordered 250 cars to handle cavalry equipment for the movement.
At the Ritz Carlton in Montreal on May 1 a forty foot scaffold collapsed under twelve workers. Christian Mateau was killed instantly and three men, James Murray, Harry Baker, and Phil Truslay, were seriously injured. the rest escaped with minor injuries.
Warrants sworn out against H. R. Woods a political worker in Regina charging seven cases of perjury. Police seek Woods who is missing and believed to use an assumed name. He allegedly swore on the names of thirteen fictitious persons and sheriffs officers have failed to locate the men involved.

Ottawa May 7 The Supreme Court postponed the hearing of the NE Temere marriage case until a Privy Council decision on the Companies Act is rendered. Chief Justice Fitzpatrick said the court will hasten the case and hear arguments as soon as possible after the Privy Council judgment, possibly during the May session.
Seismograph at St Boniface College logged a violent quake yesterday with shocks starting at 1.07 pm and peaking at 1.24 pm, ending at 2.51 pm. Father Blaine estimates the disturbance occurred about two thousand miles southeast.
