Alberta wildfires force over 13000 from homes across province

More than 13,000 people were ordered to evacuate as 78 wildfires burned in Alberta on Friday. Nineteen fires were out of control including a 1,500 hectare blaze near Drayton Valley. Evacuees registered at Edmonton's Expo Centre while ranches offered free pet boarding and rodeo stock was moved out.

Medicine Hat energy chief leaves for private sector

Brad Maynes, head of Medicine Hat's energy division and senior lead on carbon capture and hydrogen hub work, will depart to a Calgary based senior energy role after June. He notes the division remains strong and credits staff and council support for the turnaround. Maynes joined in 2015, led NGPR and the divison since 2019, and oversaw controversial asset sales amid tight finances.
