Ontario treasurer Frank Miller faced questions over a leak of discarded 1983-84 budget documents found outside a Toronto printing plant. He said the materials could not be final and ordered tighter production security at Queen's Park, delaying the budget but aiming for a Tuesday release.
Eastern Airlines Lockheed L 1011 diverted in Miami after all three engines lost power due to missing oil flow impurity monitors. Pilot Dick Boddy restarted one engine and flew the jet to a safe Miami landing with 163 passengers and 10 crew aboard.
Premier Bill Bennett led the Social Credit party to a third straight term after an unofficial count gave 35 seats to 22 for the NDP in the 57 seat legislature. Barrett conceded defeat as Bennett touted cost cutting and a policy of restraint amid a 14 percent jobless rate and welfare rolls near 100000. Barrett pledged to regroup and rebuild with supporters at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.
Israel's cabinet approved in principle an accord drafted by U S Secretary of State George Shultz to withdraw from Lebanon. The government voiced reservations on security and political issues and would seek clarifications before acting. Israel also insisted on Syrian army withdrawal before any troop pullout.

They gave conflicting accounts of two real estate reports from A.E. LePage Ltd, with Air Canada ultimately selecting the Trizec building for 30 million dollars, a decision criticized as more costly despite a better First Quebec proposal.
