Terrific quakes in Persia cause of 2000 deaths

Teheran reports unofficial telegrams say three days of continuous earthquakes in Khorassan district killed about two thousand people. Villages were leveled and 70 buildings collapsed in Shirwan and Dumuttty near the Turkestan border. The terror was described as intense and widespread.

Maple Creek Sask May 6 Herman Revinsky ordered to stand trial for murder of David Katz at the re opening of the King's Bench Court by Justice Donald Maclean. He left for Regina jail and will appear for retrial at the fall sitting opening November 12.

Principal Riddell's Ten Month Old Baby Swallows Pin

In Saskatoon on May 6 a ten month old child of Principal Riddell swallowed a small open safety pin. The infant was taken to Shaunavon where X rays located the pin in the stomach. An immediate operation removed the pin and the baby is progressing well.

Train and car collision leaves six dead in Riverside crossing

Riverside New Jersey May 6 six people died and two injured when a train struck an automobile at a crossing. Four of the victims were from one family. The scene was described as fair and cool with a temperature around 54 degrees.

Census Complete on City Boys for Cubs and Scouts

The Boy Scouts executive committee reports a city census of boys eligible for Cubs or Scouts has been completed with help from public school teachers and Gerbutt Business College students who typed the names for free. Officials await word on how many Medicine Hat can send to the London Jamboree this summer.

Western Railroads Consider Grain Export Rate Cuts

Washington May 6 Western railroads may match Eastern cuts in export grain rates announced Friday with possible extensions to wheat flour. Conrad J. Spens said a Chicago meeting will decide on reductions for grain moving to Chicago and St Louis, potentially lowering overall export charges by about 11 cents per hundred pounds. The move follows Interstate Commerce Commission talks with Hoover administration officials and traffic vice presidents.

Hit and Run Motorist Found and Fined

Duncan McAlpin of Atlee pleaded guilty before Capt. Parker J.P. at the police court to failing to report an auto accident. He was fined $5 and costs for knocking L. Lundgard down at Bridge Street and East Allowance last Monday night and driving away. Lydia Vossler was fined $10 and costs for theft after hiding an underskirt and $5 from a maid in a private city home.

Auger Granted New Trial in Ottawa Case

The First Divisional Court at Osgoode Hall granted Louis M. Auger a new trial. The former Prescott MP had been convicted in Ottawa and sentenced to nine years for a serious offence against 17 year old Hawkesbury girl Laurence Martel.

Little Girl Killed in Bow Island Auto Accident

Bow Island May 6 an auto accident near Beattie Garage killed Lorna Ferne little daughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Ferne after the car driven by Mrs Green struck a brick building and caught the child between it and the wall. Doctors attended and an inquest was set for this afternoon.

James Reginald Christie aged 19, son of Mr and Mrs J R Christie of Spruce Home district, committed death by his own action by shooting himself in the head with an automatic revolver on Saturday morning. No reason given. He had recently returned from Qaftaric.
