Seattle inventor I S Wysong, ill and confined to a hotel room, sought $10,000 for a half interest in his traction engine patent. He arrived in Medicine Hat with four wheels, promoting a four wheel drive system using a roller chain and no gears. He wanders mentally and cannot answer questions as local businessmen debated funding.
Plans by architect W. T. Williams detail a complete remodel of the Cosmopolitan Hotel between Winnipeg and the coast. Tom Bassett, proprietor, will replace the concrete bar area with a three storey brick addition including a new bar dining room kitchen pantries and rotunda. The project adds second and third floor bedrooms with private baths and a new ladies parlor. A front perch and updated facade will complete the upgrade to a modern up-to-date hostelry.
Otto Brecker of the Hamburg-German firm has purchased a land block near Wandner, Nelson, B C, to establish an ostrich farm after farming in Africa. He chose East Kootenay for suitable conditions, noting successful ostrich ranches in California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. The land was bought from the CPR.

The session adjourned early after a dinner for premiers McBride and Tazen hosted by R L Borden.
Edmonton May 6 A letter from Hudson Bay district manager Forbes Campbell at Ft. Smith details Inspector Fitzgeralds lost patrols fate. The group left Dec 21 1910 for Dawson with no guide, wandered Wind River area, died of starvation and exposure near Ft. Smith. Cor corporal Dempsey found Kenny and Taylor bodies. Taylor shot himself. Castor died first. The Inspector and Castor perished about 25 miles on. only eight pounds of bacon and ten pounds flour remained.
On April 10 in Rossland British Columbia James Chandler Maybrick aged 29 son of Liverpool cotton merchant James Maybrick died. The case recalls the sensational 1889 Maybrick murder trial in which Florence Maybrick was accused of poisoning her husband with arsenic. The narrative includes the sick letter, trials, and the involvement of Lord Chief Justice Russell. Maybrick’s death in 1899 and the later life of Florence, including time in prison and release, are discussed with reference to the historical public interest.
A. W. Smith and C. Mackay have bought the Red Cross Bakery from J. R. Harris and have taken possession. They came from York ton and announce plans to make improvements at the plant.

The School Board unanimously accepts W. T. Williams's plan for a 64 by 105 foot brick colonial style school. It will have ten classrooms, two ground floor teacher spaces, a principal and teacher rooms, two rear entrances, two 32 by 40 basement recreation rooms, oak interior finish, and left-lighted rooms to protect pupil eyesight.
The Hutchinson saddler will replace his store with a two story brick structure on Toronto Street. J L Peard secured the contract worth about 12000 dollars. The 25 by 85 foot building will have a full basement and be finished in oak with office space on the second floor.
Montreal May 6 Joseph Belleau a young French Canadian at 287 Calisie street seized a revolver and fired from a front window at passers by wounding a neighbor and Constable Mailleux who was trying to arrest him Neither victim was seriously hurt Belleau collapsed drunk when police entered finding him sitting in a drunken stupor his mother said he had been drinking heavily and felt persecuted by humanity
