Canadian Cancer Society pledges near 2 million to Alberta research

The Canadian Cancer Society will donate close to 2 million dollars to four new cancer research grants in Calgary and Edmonton this year. Grants cover areas such as using viruses and white blood cells to target cancer and studying protein and DNA roles in cancer development. Executive Director Dan Holinda praises donor support and notes Alberta recipients were chosen in a national review among 73 grants announced May 4.

Thieves steal business supplies from Heritage Inn lot

Between 7 and 9 p.m. on April 13 thieves broke into a 1988 Chevrolet Silverado parked in the east Heritage Inn lot. They smashed the rear window and took a brown leather briefcase with business cheques and invoices. Police ask anyone with information to contact RCMP.

Man killed by C-train after Flames game

A Calgary man was struck and killed by a light rail C-train after a Calgary Flames playoff hockey game. Police said the victim fell between train cars during a crowded platform melee and was killed as the train remained in motion. Witnesses noted a scuffle and a person may have attempted to rescue him.

Aftershocks Hit Tonga and Nearby Islands
