Kenney forecasts record turnout for Alberta party convention

United Conservative Party leader Jason Kenney expects about 2,200 members to attend Alberta’s inaugural general meeting and convention in Red Deer. He notes past conventions drew under 1,500 attendees, and about 250 policy ideas will be debated after members narrowed from roughly 1,600 submissions.

Ottawa to intervene in B C pipeline reference case

The federal government will join British Columbia's reference case on the 7.4 billion Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould says Ottawa will defend Parliament's jurisdiction over interprovincial pipelines as Kinder Morgan delays investment amid regulatory uncertainty. Crescent Heights teacher wins Prime Minister's Award in Ottawa

Donna Armstrong of Crescent Heights High School received a Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence at a Ottawa ceremony. The Medicine Hat educator, a Grades 7-12 multimedia and communication technology teacher, was among 11 national recipients and earned a 5000 dollar prize plus a Certificate of Excellence. The PMO praised her as a lifelong learner and advocate of safe ethical media use. Armstrong cites three classroom rules: trust, respect and performance.
