A young black bear wandered into Peace River Alberta’s IGA store early Tuesday headed for the bakery. Staff herded it outside and wildlife officials set a trap. No word on injuries or further outcome.
Karen MacLellan narrowly avoided injury when a metal chunk from a cargo plane smashed into her parked SUV outside a dance studio in Mississauga Ontario. The fragment damaged the rear windshield and roof. Transport Canada investigates while police speculate debris fell from a cargo aircraft.
A 35-year-old Medicine Hat woman on a 2006 Harley Davidson was eastbound on 23 Street N.W. when the bike veered off near 20th Street N.W. It struck a stop sign, she was thrown, life threatening injuries sent her to Foothills Hospital Calgary. Motorcycle damage about $22,000 as police investigate.
Police are investigating two property damage incidents this week in Brooks. Overnight Sunday a vehicle on Centre Street had a broken passenger side window and interior damage. Overnight Monday a Lakeland Court vehicle had a broken driver side mirror and soft drink spilled inside. Anyone with information should contact police or CrimeStoppers.
Two teenage girls now 18 were placed on two years probation for a December 6 2004 assault in Red Deer Alberta after pleading guilty to aggravated assault. They were ordered to provide DNA samples. A third teen faces charges. The victim suffered facial injuries and hair was cut.
A Federal Court judge ordered Mahmoud Jaballah to face a court hearing to determine if he should be deported, rejecting defense requests to delay pending a Supreme Court ruling on national security certificates. Jaballah has been held since 2001 on alleged ties to al Qaeda.
Lorena Keepness, mother of Tamra Keepness who vanished in July 2004, pleaded guilty to causing a disturbance in Regina provincial court. She admitted intoxication and asked for treatment, noting stress from her daughter's disappearance and the death of her sister. She previously faced a three month jail term for prostitution and breaching probation.
An Armenian Armavia Airbus A-320 with about 114 aboard crashed in bad weather off the Black Sea coast near Sochi while approaching Adler airport. Wreckage was found near shore and rescue teams reported a woman's body recovered with body parts also found.
