Canada deploys $300 million to bolster dollar in April
Canada used a further 300 million US dollars from a stand by credit with banks in April to back the Canadian dollar by buying US currency. The finance department said the dollar rose to 84.8 cents US on April 11, then eased to 84.10 by month end. Total stand by drawings reached 600 million US. Government gold sales added 92.9 million US to US dollar holdings, lifting reserves to 3.97 billion US as of April 30.
