City man dies in accident near Medicine Hat

Leonard Rodney Price 902 4th St. S.E. lost control on a curve on Cavan Lake Road about 11 30 p m. His vehicle rolled three times and ended in a ditch seven miles south of the city. RCMP confirmed the fatal crash occurring late Monday night.

City approves 1978 property mill rates and frontage taxes

City council set the 1978 mill rates across all ratepayers including single family 53.39, apartments 55.27, and commercial industrial 83.34 with a 14 13.47 and 20.78 percent rise over 1977. The levy funds include 2 961 800 for public schools 704 536 for separate schools 2 350 947 for city general purposes 1 167 721 for provincial foundation and 243 694 for the public library totaling 7 428 698 with June 30 payment deadline and frontage taxes of 8 cents per foot for water works and 10 cents per foot for sewer.

Auto licence change considered

Alberta Solicitor-General Roy Farran urges a better system for vehicle licensing amid long lines and overburdened offices. He envisions spreading licensing across the year by vehicle type and potential computer retooling with changes possibly by 1980.
