Government Distribution of Blackleg Vaccine

A letter to the Medicine Hat Stock Growers Association from the Department of Agriculture Ottawa dated April 2 informs that blackleg vaccine will be issued to stock owners at cost. Forms for requesting vaccine are printed and sent to Major Perry and Droyin Peargrave for distribution from the Pasteur Vaccine Institute. A travelling inspector for Saskatchewan and Alberta will handle outbreaks and report to Perry if unable to attend. The suit against Employers Liability Kettle Co. over an August incident resulted in damages of 1500. An employee was injured when a dispatcher’s orders caused a fall. fault lies with the dispatcher’s miscommunication.

Former Medicine Hat resident Dolphin murdered in Helena

James Dolphin, once a resident of Medicine Hat for eight to ten years, was shot in a Helena boarding house on April 13 near the Northern Pacific depot. The coroner’s inquest ruled murder, with Dolphin dying April 21 at St. John’s Hospital. A widow and three children are left in poverty. Medicine Hat Lodge covered funeral expenses.

Medicine Hat Ferry Rates and Regulations Adopted

The Medicine Hat Ferry announces tariffs for teams wagons and drivers at 25 cents per crossing, single rigs and drivers 15 cents, saddle horses 16 cents, each person 5 cents, and each animal 5 cents. No trip under 10 cents. rates apply from dawn to sunset with no extra charges outside hours. Passages may be paid in cash or ferry tickets. $5 or more in tickets earn rebates of twenty percent. Tickets available at the town clerk's office in red blue or yellow forms.

Medicine Hat Forms Rifle Association After Meeting

A rifle association is formed in Medicine Hat after an organizational meeting in Council Chambers chaired by Mayor Finlay. Officers include President Thomas J. Fleager and Secretary J. H. G. Bray. Fifty rifles to be requested from Col. Erans and stock and stationery arranged. Members listed include Walter Scott and Thomas Tweed among many locals.
