Trans Mountain expansion cleared to open today

Canada Energy Regulator approves the final leave to open applications for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and sets May 1 as commercial start date. First export shipments are expected mid May, ending a 12 year wait that began with Kinder Morgan’s 2012 proposal. The project doubles capacity to 890 thousand barrels per day and aims to lift Canadian oil prices, though construction costs exceeded 34 billion dollars.

Opposition critic urges long term drought planning in Medicine Hat

Sarah Elmeligi, MLA for Banff Kananaskis and tourism critic, told about 40 residents at a town hall that the UCP needs long term drought solutions for southeastern Alberta. She cited 15 years as a wildlife biologist and warned of ongoing multi year drought with low precipitation and water shortages, urging adaptation to less water over the long term.

Province to boost irrigation funding in Alberta program

Alberta will increase the irrigation rehabilitation program funding by 5.5 million to total 19 million in 2024, aiming to expand and modernize canals into pipelines and improve reliability for producers. Minister RJ Sigurdson, joined by Grant Hunter and others, notes the plan supports drought resilience and job creation in agriculture.
