Agriculture Minister Alvin Hamilton announced a long term wheat barley and flour trade pact with Communist China. Shipments from west coast ports start almost immediately as Canada offers credit and seeks broader product sales, urging Western Canadian business travel to China.

A 42 year old maid at the Royal York Hotel said three women beat her near the picket lines early today. She was knocked down and kicked after being accused of taking jobs. A Hotel and Club Employees Union spokesman said the union was not involved and pickets were warned against trouble.

He cut short a Virginia weekend to review the crisis with officials including Rusk McNamara Bundy and Fulbright, who warned of prestige loss if Pathet Lao gained.
A helicopter from the icebreaker Labrador airlifted four men from the long liner Betty Harris which ran aground on ice about a half mile offshore near Gabarouse Nova Scotia. The crew abandoned in a dory and were hoisted to shore one by one by winch and carried to the dock. The Labrador then headed toward the vessel while the ice breaker was located three miles off Sydney harbor earlier today.
