In Ottawa on March 30 an all day Commons debate on a private member’s motion to reduce automobile and motor truck tariffs closed near midnight without a vote. The measure, pushed by C. G. Coote, drew Liberal and Progressive support while Conservatives criticized. Coote argued high taxes burden Canadian buyers, especially farmers, by raising car costs and limiting auto per head versus the United States. The resolution would drop to the bottom of the order paper unless revived on the next private member’s day.

Switchman Bertram Orser aged 38 of 621 Fourth Street was fatally injured at about 7 80 this morning at the Crow station when a derailed coupling error occurred as a train was being made up in the siding.
