Medicine Hat News notes Hatter Angela Hutchins will join over a thousand participants in Calgary July 28 29 for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk to benefit the Alberta Cancer Foundation. The two day 60 kilometre event is the second annual Calgary walk with proceeds supporting the foundation. One in nine Canadian women face breast cancer.
Bow Island RCMP report a March 27 two vehicle collision on Highway 61 at range road 102, ten kilometres east of Foremost. Shirley Douglas, 57, of Foremost, died at the scene after being ejected from a red Ford truck. The truck driver and passengers were not wearing seat belts. A grey Ford van carrying a woman and three children traveled east toward the intersection. occupants wore restraints. The truck driver was airlifted to Calgary. Van occupants received minor injuries. Alcohol was not a factor.

The Canadian Revenue Agency reports that Brian James McElguin of Medicine Hat, 58, pleaded guilty to failing to file personal income tax returns for 2001 through 2004 and was fined $4,000. Offenders face fines from $1,000 to $25,000 or up to 12 months imprisonment, plus the obligation to file and pay any taxes due.
Saskatchewan plans a third phase widening and rehabilitation of the northbound Highway 4 bridge over the North Saskatchewan River near North Battleford. The $2.6 million project runs April 3 to October 16, with work weekdays 7 am to 11 pm, plus extended hours during concrete pours.

Two high ranking al Qaida captives cast doubt on Moussaoui involvement at his death penalty trial. Sayf al Adl, a senior military committee member, said Moussaoui was a confirmed jihadist but would not take part in the Sept. 11 mission, statements read to the jury from captivity.
Masked gunmen stormed three Baghdad businesses kidnapping 24 Iraqi employees and fleeing with tens of thousands of dollars. The hostage count rose to 40 in under 24 hours as Shiite leaders resumed talks on forming a government after boycotting over a mosque raid. At least 16 were killed in the assault, and one hostage was later freed.
