Christchurch New Zealand March 27 The Terra Nova returning from the ice barrier after landing the British Antarctic expedition under Captain R F Scott sends a despatch from McMurdo Sound January 25 describing a bold voyage. The ship faced a heavy gale from New Zealand and great pack ice delaying progress. Scott planned a winter base at Cape Evans after finding the sound open. Scott left with 12 men to sled south expected back in April. Shackleton surprised Amundsen was already there within Scotts sphere.
