Medicine Hat hospitals faced a CUPE strike after an 84 percent vote by 5 000 Alberta members. Jim Horsman of the Progressive Conservatives edged incumbent Bill Wyse of Social Credit by 131 votes in Medicine Hat Redcliff. Horsman 5677 to Wyse 5546 with Liberals 532 NDP 417 and Independent PC 53. Horsman won 46.7 percent to Wyse 45.1 percent.
