Edmonton March 27 Special to The News Premier Greenfield said the legislature will recess over the holidays with the majority of U F A members favoring a two week adjournment. The budget debate and related measures will continue after Easter while petitions and bills remain on the agenda.
Alberta budget figures show little change in salaries for top officials with $2000 legislature allowances and $6000 cabinet indemnity unchanged. Speaker and opposition leader retain $2000 special allowances. Public works cuts focus on lower capital spend with $50,000 debentures for highways and $250,000 for bridges maintenance and construction. Highway maintenance totals $130,000 and local roads $200,000. provincial training items appear among building expenditures.

The syndicate is an Idaho corporation to be registered in Alberta with its head office at Medicine Hat. The move followed geologists’ reports and is intended to enter the Many Island Lake field.
The TransCanada train will run Montreal to Vancouver in 91 hours when service resumes May 20, cutting one hour from last year. It departs Montreal 5 PM, Toronto 9 PM, arrives Winnipeg second morning at 9 45. Through service Chicago to Vancouver begins June 10 as the Soo Pacific Express with daily trains.

Wetaskiwin March 27 H E Todd customs broker and insurance agent was arrested in connection with the March 6 post office robbery in which five thousand dollars were stolen. Detective Leslie of the Provincial Police made the arrest. Preliminary hearing set for Saturday March 31 with bail at two sureties of five thousand dollars each.
