Astronaut Gordon Fullerton remotely maneuvers the 15 metre Canadarm to lift a 160 kilogram Plasma Diagnostic Package from Columbia’s cargo bay during a thermal test. The six minute grapple proves the arm’s functionality despite a failed wrist camera.
In London the British Lords approve the Canada Bill ending Westminster control over Canada. An ex-patriate protester is dragged from the chamber as a peer is silenced, and reporters are blocked from speaking to him. The bill secures Canada’s self rule while two royal formalities remain before the constitution becomes law.
