Ottawa forecast predicts increased manpower demand next year with more part time work especially among married women and retirees. Skilled workers will be scarce while total hours may rise without boosting productivity. In 1965 unemployment averaged 3.9 percent as labor force grew, farm departures rose, and immigration increased.
Finance Minister Sharp projects continued price rises in 1966 driven by renewed demand and tighter supply. The pre budget white paper notes 1965 saw a 2.4 percent CPI increase and warns that without productivity gains or a slower demand rise, inflation could persist. Employment highs suggest consumer purchases stay up, though durable goods growth may ease due to housing construction limits.
Walter Gordon's successor Pierre Trudeau era plan notes a 34 million dollar 1965 66 deficit, GDP near nine percent higher than 1964, and the economy in a boom phase by 1966.
